.cat is a special TLD (top level domain). Not only is it super cool, but it has an important meaning. It is operated by the fundació.cat organization and is meant to promote the Catalan linguistic and cultural community.

You'll notice that the site is available to view in Català (Catalan) as well, this is to help promote the language as well.
